Q:I bought a new washer and dryer and the dryer when it was first turned on tripped the main breaker? This is my first washer and dryer since I moved into the apartment. The Estate dryer is 30amp and the breaker is 30amps. This was the first time ever turning on the dryer and it tripped the outside main breaker immediately. The main breaker has tripped a few times before when only a few computers were running along with the Air Conditioning and a few lights which makes me wonder if the problem isnt the dryer putting out too many amps but if it is a weak main breaker.I was wondering if the dryer was drawing too much power, if it would break the 30amp breaker usually instead of the main breaker. It seems like it should have first opportunity to go if it is drawing too much power. The other thing I wondered about is if it was probably the dryer or the apartment wiring. Thanks for reading all this.

A:Just read the other comments.First off your in an apt. you dont change the breaker. The Maintenance man will do that. Second most apt.s have 208 not 220.And yes you have way to much plugged in. You mite see if the heating element can be changed out to a 208. The cost may not be worth it. Anyway unload the electrical circuits. That apt is not wired to handle all the AMPs that l you have plugged in. Move to a newer built complex. By Y! User: scott h
