The Coffee Machine For Gourmet Drink Perfection

Ever since the first water was boiled, brewed beverages of some kind have been a staple of civilization. However, the favorite, and yet most difficult to make has always been the perfect cup of coffee. Fortunately, the modern day coffee machine is now easy to use and fairly mistake proof, so a cup of well-made coffee can be enjoyed almost anywhere.

The percolator was probably the first widely used home coffee machine that simplified brewing coffee and made it easier to serve in a variety of settings and times of the day. The percolator works by heating cold water in a bottom chamber of a metal carafe and letting the force of the boiling water push it upwards through a funnel so that it can flow over a basket of ground coffee and back down to the bottom as freshly brewed coffee.

Although it seemed easier than previous methods, this system clearly needed some modifications. It was harder to control the strength of the brew, requiring constant attention to the amount of time you heat up the water. Sometimes the filter could not keep out some of the grounds from slipping into the pot as well.

From the 19th up until the early parts of the 20th century, coffee was made by boiling the grounds in water until they smelled right. The hot liquid was then poured into your cup through a sieve or if you were Turkish, you'd be drinking your coffee with the grounds still in them.

In the last decade, while many improvements have been made on the coffee machine, it still functions on the same basic principle of heated water being poured over grounds sitting in a filter. The greatest changes to the coffee machine are that it now sits independently away from the stove, has a separate compartment for water, and a removable coffee pot. By dripping the boiling water over the filter full of coffee and letting it run straight into the coffee pot, there almost no grounds and no mixing of the original water with the brewed coffee.

Because of technology and cheaper manufacturing, a standard coffee machine can be purchased for as little a ten dollars. These are smaller coffee machines that can sit on a desk or a kitchen counter with limited space. Deluxe home and restaurant machines cost quite a bit more and usually make espressos as well as regular coffee.

An automated coffee machine requires little if any effort to make a pot of coffee. It heats the water to just the right temperature and lets you know when the coffee is finished brewing. They have timers, so that your coffee can be ready when you wake up or when you get home from work. This frees up time to do other things like read the paper or get ready for work.

Cafes serving gourmet coffees are increasing in numbers worldwide due to hi-tech advances; pressurized coffee making machines that can make a cappuccino or a latte in minutes; manual to super-automatic appliances that will serve you espresso the way you want it. Coffee making machines are continually evolving to meet the demands of a sophisticated society who all just want a cup of coffee.
